Caligo teucer is the most abundant species of the genus in central Amazonia. Occurs throughout the year and has a increase in abundance at the beginning of the season of less rain. Souza et al. 2006 present the morphological description of immature stages of Caligo teucer, from studies maked in northeastern Brazil, with caterpillars feed on bananen leaves and other exotic plants.

Feed on rotten fruits
According Souza et al. (2006) the caterpillars feed on leaves:
Musaceae: Musa spp.
Heliconiaceae: Heliconia bihai
Cannaceae: Canna indica
Zingiberaceae: Alpinia purpurata
In addition to the above species Beccaloni et al. (2008) adds:
